AEROVANT™ is a new investigational treatment for asthma, not just another steroid-based medication. Steroids are effective in the treatment of asthma but have serious side-effects that warrant caution with prolonged treatment. AEROVANT is a protein that competitively blocks two key inflammation triggers, interleukin-4 and -13 (IL-4 and IL-13). By inhibiting the activity of IL-4 and IL-13, AEROVANT targets the root cause of asthma by inhibiting the Th2 immune response that causes inflammation in the lungs of asthmatics. In two previous Phase IIa clinical trials, AEROVANT demonstrated a significant reduction in the late asthmatic response. (The Lancet 2007, 370: 1422-31)

AEROVANT is an odorless fine powder which carries the medicine. The powder comes in a capsule that is loaded into a small plastic device called a dry powder inhaler (trademark: EzAer™ Inhaler). The patient puts the inhaler to their lips and sucks in the fine powder. The powder dissolves as it contacts the airway surface.

AEROVANT was designed to prevent the inflammation and irritation of the lungs that is unique to asthma. AeroTrial is testing the effectiveness of this new investigational medication in controlling the symptoms in patients with asthma.
